Scatter Day is an annual tradition at River View Cemetery and an opportunity for people to provide a beautiful send-off for a loved one’s cremated remains. Remains that were previously at home on a mantle, bookshelf, dedicated display, discovered in a closet, or inherited. Many are unsure what to do with these cremated remains, but now, for a third year, River View offers an option to area families to scatter cremated remains in the cemetery for free.
This free service to the community provides peace of mind and a beautiful setting for 16 families per year to gently and securely place cremated remains along the cemetery’s beautiful canyon overlooking the Stephens Creek tributary. Their placements will be recorded in River View’s permanent records for future generations to discover and be a part of Portland’s history at no cost. However, if families wish, there are also opportunities for permanent memorialization, from cenotaph engravings to other memorialization options available for purchase.
The deck at Stephens Creek is a lovely and secluded area of River View Cemetery. While visible from the cemetery road, it is only accessible by foot, which provides an exceptionally peaceful setting for residents and visitors alike.
Reservations are limited and will be accepted starting February 22nd.
