The real story behind the Knock-Knock

April 16th I had a heart attack in the emergency room after a night of pain and panic. This is what occurred in my life. Heed your body’s voice, it may save your life.

April 19, home from having 3 stents placed in my heart, I walked into my bathroom to see the evidences of my night of horror. Coconut oil, Pepto Bisimo, tube of clove oil, and a bottle of aspirin. The leftover cures I sought while trying to find what my body was telling me. It all started Saturday after work.

As I left my business, I stepped into the path of a dog. Dog dander always makes my throat swell and I lose my voice. Some pain, more discomfort. This time the swelling grew larger than normal and was closing off my throat. I used ice and heat to reduce the swelling. The swelling went down, the pain went up. This was my stressor. It could have been any form of stress.  I took two aspirin.  Unknown to me, my heart had issues that were a danger to me. The part of my brain that governs my involuntary actions and the learned behaviors, would spend the night trying to tell me to get help. My body‘s brain is a wonderful part of me that speaks to my needs with pain and pleasure. This night it would speak with pain that did not have a cause, was not reasonable, and did not respond to my efforts to stop the pain. I call each creation of pain a Knock.

The first Knock was the common pain of the swelling throat became so intense that I took Aspirin. A good heart move but I did not read the danger message. Next, my brain gave me a toothache. Using coconut oil to cover a crack seemed reasonable to my befuddled mind. Another Knock. I was trying to find a cause for the unexplained pain. Next, my body grew the pain to fill my jaw. I applied clove oil to a tooth where the pain seemed to radiate. No help. A very loud Knock. Moving pain, increasing pain, my body was yelling as loud as it could. Telling me with each pain I was in danger. A strong demand for Aspirin was in my head. I took two more

I live alone. Had someone been with me, they may have realized I was acting impulsively. I thought I was acting logically. When my tummy became upset, I searched for the Pepto Bismol. It dawned on me that I was not being logical. Pain does not move around.  There was no reason for any of the pain I was feeling. Yet the pain was so very real. At that point, it was almost 7:00 AM.  The time my son and I went shopping each Saturday. My chest started to feel warm.  That clicked for me. My body had been yelling danger the only way it knew, danger, doom, get help.

My body was giving me one more warning. I was in danger. I saw my son and told him to take me to the hospital emergency. He did. I was in surgery within minutes.

I was incredibility Lucky. My body had been yelling at me to get to the safety of the hospital all night. Your stressor will not be mine; your pattern of pain will be different. Please heed my lesson. When your body Knocks at pains door call 911. If there is no logic for the pain, have someone take you to the emergency room. If your pain jumps from area to area, call 911.  Feelings of doom, danger, unreasonable pain anywhere, moving pain, heed your body.

Knock-Knock body is calling to you to tell you that you are in danger. Knock-Knock call 911
