Agriculture is one of the oldest practices in human history. Participating in the practice of growing your own food and being a steward to the land is rewarding in a way that few other things are. It connects us to the rest of humanity – past, present, and future! However, with such a rich history, it can be difficult to know where to start, especially if you want to use practices best for the people and the planet!
SymbiOp Garden Shop, a worker-owned cooperative, is dedicated to making sure that gardeners and plant enthusiasts have all the information they need to grow their own food or create habitats for native wildlife. They provide free walking tours of their native plants (the largest selection in Portland), edible plants, and houseplants for beginners and advanced plant lovers. They also partner with community members to teach courses on mushroom cultivation, seed bomb making, homesteading, gardening, food forestry, community organizing, and cooperative development, and more!
